My girlfriend’s sister asked me to dj her wedding. It sounds like fun, but I’m looking at my list, and getting a little worried. Even at its most upbeat, the music I like tends be to be pretty melancholy. I need everyone to help me with this. Try to come up with a few songs that would be good for a wedding. I especially want some happy, danceable suggestions. I know you were thinking Livin Thing, but you’re too late. I already picked that one.
Thanks buds.

Springsteen. Syreeta’s Harmour Love. France Gall’s Laisse Tomber Le Filles and Poupee de Cire Poupee de Son. I don’t know what any of the words mean, though…I’m going to go ahead and suggest that you just play that French Cuts cd we listened to straight through.
And for those slow dances, Ben Folds The Luckiest has played at every reception with music (and even the ones without, really) I’ve been to in the last 3 years or so. It gets the old ones crying.

The things we do for love…..it’s a great song that I always request when love is in the air….

Thank you. I should have known the girls would be the first to help me out. I think i will use a few from the french cuts. I’m not familiar with The Luckiest but I’ll check it out. The springsteen songs I know (all from ‘Nebraska’) are about hard luck criminals and dirty cops. Have any particular favorites?
Jones,
ello. good to hear from you. Who sings that song?

golden years by bowie
and then just play a bunch of can songs.
i’m serious about can.
and t-rex. probably metal guru to get everyone up and dancing.
and jonathan richman. his songs are about love and somewhat danceable.
and you should play that harry nilsson hit, “i can’t live if living is without you.” it’s a wedding, so everyone is already feeling sentimental.

I would totally do “Abominable snowman in the market” if you go with Richman. That’s going to throw them off a bit…and, for the record, I really hate “The Luckiest,” but it gets on the wedding playlist all the time. Just so you know I’m not a sillyass. And I will be ready this afternoon, when I finally get internet in my house. I just have to decide what I’m going to choose…

If it were my wedding, I’d be happy with an all Can soundtrack. But I’ve been told specifically not to play my weird music. I have Jeepster by T Rex on my list, but Mystic Lady is a great choice. Golden Years also. I had I’m So Confused on their but K thinks it’s too sad and resigned.
Can’t wait to see what you pick, Whitty.
